LIFESHIFT: Work and the Christian Journey
September 14-16, 2012
Tom Bachhuber, Ed.D., President of the Board, Center for Life Transitions,
and Bill Sneck, SJ, Ph.D., Spiritual Director, Jesuit Center

It’s clear that our life is a journey and a continual process of changing, moving and
developing in all aspects--personal, family, jobs, career, relationships, age, and faith.

St. Ignatius of  Loyola, founder of the Jesuits and author of the Spiritual Exercises said,
“There are very few people who realize what God would make of them….In calling me to live
my special qualities and characteristics, God planted deep in myself an original
purpose---what my concrete self adds up to and to live it out.”

This insight illustrates the goal for the retreat/workshop—LifeShift--Work and the
Christian Journey
—simply, to help people make the commitment to identifying these
“special qualities….original purpose….and concrete self” and then to “live it out” in work and life.
Fear and anxiety which often block successful transitions will also be addressed.

LifeShift –Work and the Christian Journey
brings together tested principles in career
planning, assessment and decision making with opportunities for participants to explore their
spirituality. There will also be some focus on the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises as part of discernment.

Participants will engage exercises and activities, discuss, listen, interact, journal, reflect and pray.
There will be short presentations, experiential activities and time for solitude and reflection. Participants will complete the useful, online Strong Interest Inventory which compares interests to successful professionals in a variety of occupational fields. Follow up consultations are available after the retreat to refine goals and implement strategies as well as participate
in spiritual direction.

People who may find LifeShift helpful include…..

Those who are approaching or experiencing retirement and are searching for new meaning in their next work/life phase

Those who have never or rarely been thoughtful about their "gifts" and how they might connect to opportunities

Those at mid-life who are dissatisfied with their career/work and are looking for fresh perspectives

Individuals  beginning a career but  are already looking for a change or new direction

People who would like to look inward and use spiritual ideas/resources to help with decision making and goal setting.

STRUGGLING WITH SHAME, ANGER, AND GUILT
February 8-10, 2013

William J. Sneck, S.J., Ph. D.

Since 1979, staff member and licensed clinical psychologist, Bill Sneck, S.J., has been conducting weekend workshops and retreats concerning the "hard" emotions (i.e. hard to understand, difficult to work with, painful to express.)  Through presentations, guided reflections, confidential small group interactions, and prayer services, we will explore a psycho-spiritual approach to shame, anger, and guilt.  By means of theoretical understanding and personal practice, an effort will be made to begin a healing of these emotions and their effects, and to deal with them more creatively in the future.

Arrival: 4:00-5:45 PM
Departure: 2:00 PM

Cost: $170
Deposit: $85
Commuter Fee: $115 (includes meals)
