Rector's Letter

Rev. Thomas F. Gleeson, S.J.

  Tom Gleeson, S.J.

Dear Friends,

June of 2008 found me completing four years here at Wernersville where I entered the Society of Jesus fifty years ago. A great deal has changed here since 1958 and since June of 2004 as well. Let me share a few of them with you.

This year, we are very grateful to Ms. Frieda Peischler of Coplay, PA for her generosity in funding a fine renovation of our chapel in honor of the Holy Spirit. In addition, when guests now come through our new entrance, they are met by the Welcoming Jesus, a beautiful statue given by Carl Landegger of New York City, NY. A photo of the statue follows our mission statement. We are much indebted to these two regular guests for their thoughtfulness in providing these gifts to the Center.

Programmatic change has taken place as well and is described throughout this website. In addition, our Spiritual Growth staff members gave a four-part Lenten series on prayer to the parishioners at St. Mary’s in Hamburg, PA. as well as an afternoon of Recollection here at the Center for the faithful of St. Margaret’s in Reading PA – parishioners who have welcomed me these past four years as their weekend associate.

There is one aspect of the Center which has not changed for 2008-09. Through the generosity of so many of you, we have been able to retain our pricing structure set in 2004 for another year. However, I should mention that our long range financial planning indicates a change for the following year. Allow me to close with a heartfelt thank you for making it possible for us to retain our low daily rates through your generous support of our work here at this special place we simply call Wernersville.

God bless you.
